33 years old, Kat graduated from MIT with dual Master’s degrees in computers and political science. While in college, she developed and patented a component important to the Flash drive and therefore is fairly comfortably set. In other words – she is stinking rich. (Kat looks a LOT like Andrea Parker from the TV show “The Pretender”.)

Raised in Kansas City, MO, the product of a middle class family, Kat could not imagine loafing the rest of her life away, so when the CIA came recruiting she signed on. The CIA was looking for someone with her computer talents, the interest and background in political science and Kat had the added bonus of being wealthy due to her patent, and therefore not easily bought by a “foreign” power. She is a technology/computer geek for the CIA – although she basically says she works for the government writing computer programs.

Kat is in a steady relationship with Jared Birkoff whom she met while in college. He is a computer expert as well, also working for the CIA, but at a management level. (He looks a lot like Pierce Brosnan did during Remington Steele, but without the 70s hair.)

The Detroit office respects Kat’s talents enough to give her some flexibility as regards to her work environment and where she actually works from – they know that creatively Kat does some of her best work outside the office – so as long as she at least checks in every day or so the office management doesn’t care where Kat is. (The custodial staff had started complaining about her workspace at the CIA offices – they were afraid to go in there – which partly explains why management is just as happy to have Kat experiment with her technology at home. And the power drains were just EATING the budget.) Kat usually makes a point to work several days a week in the office, and she is extremely careful not to take advantage of her leeway.

Kat found out about the Unseen in the “normal” way – she was poking around somewhere the Unseen tended to congregate, and found more than she was looking for. This happened while in college. Her boyfriend “knows” about the Unseen, however is in denial.
